Gig.. Geeg. Jig.. Gij-lee… what?
Yeah, I know. I went from a 4 letter Czech maiden name, to this Italian tongue twister! Everyone has a different pronunciation. My favorite so far has to be “Jiggly-otti.” (with every year, that one becomes more and more accurate!)
Occasionally, I run across a real Italian, who pronounces our last name authentically: something sounding a bit like “gee-OH-tee.”
But we’re not real Italians. Oh no. Several generations ago, the family moved to Puerto Rico. Then New York. And Finally Oklahoma. By this point there is very little Italian left at all; pretty much all that remains of Italy is my husband’s nose, our Catholic faith, and the last name.
So we say “Gig-lee-AH-tee.”
I am a mom of 3 children here, and one (or two) waiting for me in heaven. Both my husband and I were homeschooled, and that is our dream for our family. Born in Oklahoma, we’ve spent our married life in Kansas City, and now we’ve recently moved back home, to the Red Dirt state. I’m passionate about gentle grace-filled discipline, homebirth, homeschooling, painting and writing, and championing traditional motherhood.
